On China-Sri Lanka Education Exchange and Cooperation from the Aspect of “One Belt One Road” Initiative

Abstract:“One Belt One Road”(OBOR) initiative proposed by China in 2013 refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and
the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, aimed at building a trade and infrastructural network connecting Asia with
Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes of silk road. Sri Lanka has a long history of economic relations
with China. At present, China has contributed to several projects for the development of Sri Lanka, and has also
initiated various projects designed to improve the quality of Sri Lankas education. The purpose of this research
is to understand the common interests of “one belt and one road” in the course of economic development, and
to explain the current problems in educational sector. In recent years, with the strengthening of economic and
diplomatic relations between the two countries, the cultural and historical ties between China and Sri Lanka have
become increasingly tight. As a turning point, these bilateral relations have reached a new peak in the process
of economic development to educational development. Sri Lanka has grown significantly as a result of its close
relationship with China.
