Now he is Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tongji Hospital (Tongji University affiliated Hospital), Shanghai, China.
 
He has been doing research on cancer gene therapy in the US and Germany since 1994. He published more than 70 research papers including SCI papers. He got two patents in the US. He has been invited to be speaker or chairman of international research conferences such as one of two honorary editors of American Obstetrics and Gynecology Series. He is well trained in clinical obstetrics and gynecology and possesses medical licenses in China, the US and Germany. He has been working in those countries for 15 years with extensive clinical experience obtained. In recent years, he has successfully performed approximately 2,000 operations of related cases which were highly praised by the peers from the US and Germany.
 
He supervised research projects funded by National Natural Fund and Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. He is the inventor of several surgery procedures such as Tong’s hammock anterior, Tong’s posterior vaginal wall hammock, Tong’s pelvic floor reconstruction using gynemesh and Trans-obturator vaginal tape. He has 5 patents for technological invention in China.
 
He is editor-in-chief of International Advances in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is member of The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Committee, chairman of academic board of Shanghai Obstetrics and Gynecology Committee and member of Shanghai Medical Association Obstetrics and Gynecology Sub-committee
