Why is There a Difference between Residency Training in China and U.S.?

Abstract:Objective: The authors aim to review comparative outcome measures practice of orthopedic resident training
system between China and the United States. Moreover we would like to evaluate how this difference can
improve our orthopedic resident system proposal and approach. Method: By comparing 29 articles on
PubMed, CNKI and other databases, a meta-analysis was performed to compare the differences between
training systems of China and the United States. Results: China has established a standardized training
system for orthopedics in 2015, but still, there is huge potential regarding the quality of the source of
students, tutor selection, surgical approaches, and regular training. Conclusion: Based on the actual situation
in the China residency training system, American residential training influenced work, and made great impact
on orthopedic residential training work, and made great impact on orthopedic residential training followed in
China. As these systems and protocols are recently being considered, the standardized training and specialized
training still needs to improve and provide a new perspective for further deeply reform of medical education.
